The Giant and The Gremlin: A poem about overcoming worry

The giant and the gremlin

Sometimes I feel like a giant. I feel safe and secure and strong.

Sometimes I feel like a gremlin, like I could sleep the whole day long.

The giant is my hero, my fighter, my guide.

The gremlin is all that I fear deep down on the inside.

The days that I feel like the gremlin, I may cry; throw my toys and scream. I don’t like feeling like the gremlin. He makes others think that I’m mean.

The days that I feel like the gremlin I can hide and keep myself inside. I don’t like feeling like the gremlin, it makes me feel all empty and wide.

The days that I feel like the gremlin, I can tell myself all will be well.

The days that I feel like the gremlin, I can run and jump and flap outside.

The days that I feel like the gremlin I can write an I feel better spell!

The days that I feel like the gremlin, the best thing that I know I can do. Is call upon the giant and say, “help me to be just like you!”

The giant will come and make me feel tall. Not like the gremlin who makes me feel small.

The giant will stand there big and strong and proud. He will bury the gremlin back deep under ground.

The giant will fight and make me feel good!

The giant will help when I feel misunderstood.

I am not the gremlin and he is also not me.

I am a fighter and a magician and the giant and I make we.
